Council Approves “Road Diet” For Yonge Street

At Monday’s Council meeting, in an 8-1 decision, Midland Council decided to adopt the recommendations from a traffic study that recommended the reduction for Yonge Street, between King and 8th only, from four to two lanes and the addition of a centre turning lane and bicycle lanes.  The decision has met with much online criticism if the comments on Councillor Oschefski’s facebook page are any indication of broader public sentiment.

Residents are encouraged to review the study for themselves in anticipation of a public meeting that is supposed to be called in the future (seemingly well after the decision has been made).  The study is found on pages 3-33 of this document: http://www.midland.ca/Shared%20Documents/Agenda%20-%20General%20Committee%20April%2010.pdf
