Council Asks Police For Opinion About ATV On Local Roads

In a letter addressed to Council for tonight’s Council meeting, it seems that the Chief of Police Michael Osborne was asked to provide comments about the potential for Council to make bylaws that would pave the way for ATV (all terrain vehicles) to be allowed to operate on some or all of Midland streets, parks and trails.

The chief’s response is lengthy and contains many citations and links for further reading and consideration but in a word:  NO.

While looking for artwork to accompany this story, I found many websites such as those quoted by the police chief that warn of the perils of allowing off-road vehicles to be used on-road, along with some disturbing statistics.  Read the letter below, have a look at some of the stats.  Here is just one: http://www.iihs.org/iihs/sr/statusreport/article/48/9/2

Thats crap there called all-terrain vehicles for a reason they can drive on any surface and if they follow the rules that the Government set for them they wont have a problem must have a license insurance plate and helmet/gear i think they should dig into it a little more before they jump to sayin no they have no clue seein how all they do is sittin in a car or there office on there lazy butts they dont get out and drive them things like alot of others do there fore they have no idea and theres lots of trails and olaces to drive them as well
