Fire Chief Paul Ryan gained initial approval for the joint purchase (Tay, Oro-Medonte, Midland/Penetanguishene) for 20 SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) units, 50 air bottles and 35 face pieces. The purchase has come in under budget at $216,730 (plus HST). The SCBA was originally intended to replaced in 2018 but the air bottles are end of life in 2017, so the decision to replace the complete set was budgeted for 2016.
The savings by doing a joint tender and purchase saved all involved approx $23,000. The selected vendor is in Vaughan, Ontario and the units come with a 15 year warranty.
This item has been moved on to Council for ultimate approval.
