The city of Peterborough had been promoting their recent butter tart festival as the “best in the province”…..complete with 50 vendors! Sorry folks Midland’s Fourth Annual Butter Tart Festival has always been the best, complete with 150 vendors.
It is thought that well over 100,000 butter tarts were again sold in Midland this year. It was difficult to get a concise count of visitors but the general consensus ranged between a low of 40,000 and a high of 60,000. All we know, King Street was wall to wall people from Yonge and King to the town dock. By the next day the downtown core was cleaned up and looked spiffy, thanks to vendors, volunteers and public works personnel. Bragging rights aside, these annual butter tart festivals at the Gateway to the 30,000 Islands are sensational crowd pleasers. Kudos to all organizers for a terrific job well done, again! And somebody get me Peterborough’s Mayor on the phone so we can set him straight!
