After 145 years using elephants under the Big Top, Ringling Brothers Circus retired their last 11 elephants. They now are being shipped by train to the Sarasota area where they will live the remainder of their lives on a 200 acre retreat where they can roam and be well pampered.
Well known Shriners’ Circus gave up involving animals a long time ago because out an outcry of how tigers, lions, elephants were caged, trained and often mistreated at circuses and carnivals. Recently in India after giving rides to dozens of tourists in 104F heat, an exhausted elephant collapsed and died on the spot. So three cheers to Ringling Brothers. We can only hope marine parks will get the message too and move their whales and dolphins back to where they came from.
One so happens to believe that caged animals in zoos have every right to be freed and returned from whence they came. Why should humans marvel at cage animals or whales and dolphins swimming about in nothing more than monstrous swimming pools. This was never the intent of their makers, was it?
