For months Our Midland.ca has featured a host of stories regarding Midland council’s appetite for in-camera meetings, 49 since this council took office nearly 24 months ago. The Mirror devoted a couple of pages to council’s abhorrent habit of meeting in secret meetings, 49 so far.
It is amazing some of the incumbents ran on a platform of transparency, but now thrive on secret handshake sessions. It is stunning the number of in-camera meetings, 49, these knights of the Roundtable gladly take part in….never worried about Ontario’s Ombudsman thinks even after being scolded yet again this past June. The Mayor seems completely un-repentent and continues to defend the need (for which there are) for in-camera meetings while refusing to take responsibility for the abuse of that process identified by the Ombudsman. In some of his comments, he almost seems to blame staff for not keeping them in check. By the time councillors run for office in 2018, one would expect they will hold a Guinness World Record.
