International Space Station (ISS) – Why We Dream

When I was a youngster, I would race home from school and turn on stand up radio in corner of our living room to hear 2,000 Plus, a science fiction program.  You can today google Old Tyme Radio and hear a host of memory makers: The Lone Ranger, Green Hornet, Superman and more.  Friends of mine stretched a string across street between their upper bedrooms….tied tin cans at each end and could talk to each other……Decades later CB Radios, cell phones, Skype, FaceTime and more are used by folks wanting to talk to family and friends around the world and not using land lines…..

For the past few months I have been tweeting  Commander Scott Kelly (@StationCDRKelly) and his team aboard NASA’s ISS 250 miles above the earth…….2,000 Plus!  I watched cargo being launched to the space station, yesterday watched three new crew members being launched by rocket from Russia and enjoyed them meeting the other three astronauts aboard ISS…..since men and women have been in space their numbers have swelled to over 200 including a couple of Canucks. As for  Cmdr Kelly, his twin, Mark, has already been in space…..when Scott returns to earth in early March he will have logged an entire year hovering over our globe like an eye in the sky.  He has already been on two space walks lasting hours, he calls them “space works.”  We salute all those who have been in space as well as engineers who have gotten them there…..2,000 Plus has arrived and then some….Be safe and God speed friends of the earth.
