Emergency Communicators

This week in “Yours to Discover”, Ontario Public Safety Communicators are being honoured. They are the men and women who hunker down in radio rooms and comm centres dispatching police, firefighters, ambulances and air ambulances, PUC and Ontario Hydro,  public works and highway plow operators.  They are an unheralded lot.

Skilled, professional, empathetic…..theirs is a demanding job and they do it well. Like a circus ring master, they bring emergency resources together for maximum coverage. They often handle more than one emergency at a time…..dispatching the right people to the right incident.

So this week it is hats off to all public safety communicators in all those busy radio rooms and communications centres across Ontario.

One final note, the late Robert (Bob) Murray of Midland worked out of Barrie OPP’s radio room the time a devastating tornado ripped through south Barrie, he was one busy guy as it turned out. Years later he was an equally superb  radio operator with Midland Police when he moved back home. So to all communicators, please pencil us in as 10-7 and thanks for all you do to get us the help we need when we need it.

  1. Thank you so much for recognizing Bob Murray, and paying tribute to him and his fellow communicators. The day of the tornado in Barrie was especially difficult, but Bob gave every day his best effort. He was dedicated to his job, his town and to his family. He is as missed today as he was nine years ago when we lost him.
