Summer is winding down…how do we know? CNE has opened, the Ex a popular end of summer extravaganza for almost 140 years packs ’em every year. Well over one million people of all ages pack into the Lake Ontario venue annually. We are certain you have CNE memories, I sure do, on opening day going through Princess Gates, at age of five or six, I almost got run down by a taxi while being dazzled by the crowds and midway. We recall seeing our first ever jet vapour trail during the Air Show….my parents and siblings thought the plane had caught fire during a barrow roll over Island Airport. That was back in very early ’50s. The rides, the food, concerts and more were memorable attractions. Hell Drivers were always crowd pleasers. My uncle was a drummer in Shriner’s Oriental Band from Rameses Temple that paraded on opening day at the Ex decades later I followed in his footsteps and became a Mason/Shriner almost 50 years ago. Parents make it a point to take your kids to the CNE….there they will make their own fond memories.
