This is Police Week and a perfect time to call attention to what our men and women in uniform do to make our communities safe. Here in Midland we have a service consisting men and women, young and older who do a superb job 24/7.
There was a time when Midland Police Service was in need of additional equipment, training to compete with criminals who had gone modern. From bullet proof vests, to replacing revolvers once owned by the Northwest Mount Police and Niagara Falls Police, to a K-9 Unit, hiring police women, moving into a new police station and more our police service moved with the times and became the envy of many police departments in the province.
The Solicitor General’s Office often pointed to Midland as a force (now called service) that believed in community first, was well trained and worked well with neighbouring forces. All of this just didn’t happen, but under Chiefs Larry Hembruff, Paul Hamelin and now Mike Osborne, the police service has become the pride of Midland, highly respected and worth every cent of taxpayers’ dollars. Police Week greetings to Midland Police Service personnel. Stay safe people.
