Those Were The Days

Remember in the old days when you called someone you were never put on hold. Now being on hold means an earful of loud music. Should one get through a recorded messages says they appreciate our business and an agent will be one the phone in so many minutes. When he or she comes on the line they are on the other side of the world and it is either yesterday or tomorrow again. Where are the savings/advantage vs frustration of being on half of one’s life time……and please get me going about waiting rooms, that is totally another story. By being put on hold one develops a new music library: classical, new age, instrumentals performed by high schools in a garage.

When I was day trading, there were occasions where I want to dump stock and make a few bucks and I put on hold…..I watched Dow Jones and TSE tickers on my computer and saw my stock dropping like a rock before I spoke to a live person to off load my Bre-X lemons okay just kidding,  never had that turkey, but you get the idea. Why this topic today?

We wanted  to pick and pay TV channels….my wife was on hold for nearly 12 minutes. Girl at other end was confusing….we told her we wanted just eight channels…instead of paying for some starter package promotion  and then a series of add ons once they are previewed. nonsense …CRTC has opened a Pandora’s box, with cable TV providers not overly keen it would seem  to lose lucrative bundled  programming…..back to more background music.
