In the reporting game it can become easy interviewing the same person on a variety of subjects or have a favourite member of council, maybe he or she is a personal friend. For those of you who have ever campaigned for funds, sold real estate or insurance, chances are your first prospects were relatives and friends. It’s only human nature….going further afield becomes more difficult. So it is in the reporting game.
Because of community mores it is only natural reporters are a tiny bit biased but only in the way they grew up within their family and community. Good reporters are made thanks to their curiosity, zeal, energy, fairness, objectiveness…..they cultivate no favours from those they interview or write about.
The Midland Free Press set the gold standard when it came to journalism in North Simcoe. Richie With, Art LePan, Charlie Noquet, Ken Somers, Marion Sleep were all keen reporters, journalists who were fair and super objective…..they had no favourite people to befriend or report on…..
Our Midland.ca strives to be like these people in their citizen journalism, but we understand daily, their shoes are difficult to fill. But we press on because of a constant need to keep readers in North Simcoe up to date when it comes to local news and views.
