If one’s memory serves him right, earliest snowfall he has even seen since 1960 in Midland was on a Sept. 17….. The latest was on a May 9. The exact years escape me for now. Snow in mid April is annoying but not historic.
Back in the late ’70s almost 20 feet of the blessed white powder fell down upon Huronia……mind you in the winter of 1945-46 well over that amount covered Allenwood and Allenwood Beach. Then there was one winter in the ’80s when less than 90 inches of snow was recorded by weather watcher Stan Dane. Stan had the best weather information one person could ever record. He was a stickler when it came to recording Midland weather facts. At the old Free Press we published Stan’s snow reports which local cottage owners living in Metro subscribers could see/read and then decide when to come north to clear snow off cottage roofs.
For those returning from wintering in Florida seeing all this white stuff surely will have been a pain in the backside……mind you for others planning to cruise other parts of the globe where it is warm and grasses are green, snow will be but a memory as one sits around the pool with friends sipping on something that tantalizing.
