When a winter storm hits, our Roads Division staff respond in a timely fashion to ensure streets and sidewalks remain safe and passable for motorists and pedestrians. We want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this winter storm event.
With over 190 km of roadways and 18.3 km of sidewalks to care for, snow clearance is a challenging task. The Town of Penetanguishene has a number of salting and snow clearing units available to assist with clean up efforts. In addition, there are a number of contracted companies that assist with snow clearing activities.
When it comes to snow clearing activities on roads, the Town provides two levels of service based on minimum maintenance standards.
In addition to inclement weather, clean-up crews often face other obstacles while trying to complete their tasks. These include motorists trying to pass or following too closely behind snowplows, vehicles parked on the street, and vehicles parked in driveways blocking the sidewalk. When snowplow and sidewalk operators encounter these obstacles, it limits their ability to clear the snow and forces them to slow down or come to a complete stop. Residents can assist with clean-up efforts by keeping these points in mind.
Members of the public who have specific concerns about snow clearing activities are asked to call the Public Works Department at 705-549-7992. The office will be open this week 8-4 on Dec 27, 28, and 8-12 on Dec 29. After hours inquiries can be directed to 888-363-9311.
