A teenager is dead after his snowmobile collided with a tree north of Elmvale.

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP  were dispatched to a section of OFSC trail 301 just north of the Tiny Flos Township Townline at around 4:20 a.m. on Dec. 28. A single snowmobile and its lone occupant had left the trail and struck a tree.

A 16-year-old male from Mapleton Township, the lone operator of the snowmobile, succumb to injuries suffered as a result of the collision.

“Investigators are citing speed and driver inexperience as contributing factors,” said OPP Constable David Hobson. “There was no indication of alcohol.”
