An arbitrator has laid out severance and salary options available to members of the former Midland Police Service.

The arbitration award came on March 26. The matter was sent to an arbitration hearing after settlement negotiations stalled.

Uniformed members of the Midland Police Service (MPS) hired by the OPP will not get severance or salary.

Civilian members of the MPS hired by the OPP will get severance at a rate of two weeks per year of service, pro-rated for partial years.

All other MPS members not hired by the OPP are eligible for $5,000 of education, retraining or upgrading within 18 months, and an option of either a lump sum equal to five weeks per year of service, or salary continuation to 4.25 weeks per year of…
