An off-duty Barrie OPP officer who injured a woman when he rear-ended her vehicle last September was at fault for the collision, an SIU report says.
While his conduct was an infraction under the Highway Traffic Act, it did not fall under the unit’s mandate of finding criminal fault, SIU director Tony Loparco decision said.
The officer was following too closely in an undercover Land Rover on Hwy. 12 in Coldwater when he failed to stop in time for a vehicle that had slowed down in front of him.
The woman driving the other car went to hospital, where she was diagnosed with a concussion.
The officer reported the Sept. 12 collision immediately and admitted that he was at fault, according to the report.
