Several local hospitals are about to become more environmentally friendly.

The provincial government announced $3.1 million in funding for five Simcoe County hospitals Nov. 28, money that will be used to address energy efficiency needs.

Barrie’s Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre gets nearly $1.7 million for boiler and pneumatic control replacements. Collingwood General and Marine Hospital receives $635,000 to upgrade aging light fixtures and heat generating systems. Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital earns $502,165 for LED lighting conversion, damaged pole replacement and heating, venting and air conditioning (HVAC) and building automation system retrofits.
