Shared: Christian Island to build first permanent fire hall

For the first time in history, Beausoleil First Nation (BFN) will have a permanent fire hall.

A ground breaking ceremony was held Monday for the approximate $3 million project on Christian Island across the road from the recreation centre. Construction is expected to be complete in less than a year.

“This is a day to remember. This is something that is long overdue,” said Beausoleil fire Chief Allan Manitowabi, who has been working on the project for close to 10 years.

Many people in the community, the volunteer firefighters and other emergency services workers have waited a long time for this to happen, he said.

“I’ve been working diligently trying to get the funding to put this building together.”
