Shared: Coast Guard to begin icebreaking operations on Georgian Bay this weekend

Midland residents can expect to see some activity out on Georgian Bay this weekend.

The Canadian Coast Guard says their spring icebreaking operations will start this weekend, on or about March 24.

The icebreaking operation is done in order to allow commercial vessels to move safely through the harbour. Residents can expect to see the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Griffon icebreaking in the area.

The coast guard says the exact date of the operations could change without notice due to weather or other circumstances.

Recreation activities such as fishing, and snowmobiling are not advised during the icebreaking operation.
