Shared: Environment Canada forecasts freezing rain ‘threat’ for Simcoe County Monday

Your drive home may be a bit slick on Monday.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement, advising that freezing rain will fall in most of central and eastern Ontario, including Simcoe County, Barrie and Orillia, Jan. 22.

A low pressure system is forecast to cross the lower Great Lakes, bringing some “inconsequential drizzle or light flurries” to the area during the morning commute. However, a more significant freezing rain “threat is becoming increasingly likely” later in the day, Environment Canada said.

Colder easterly winds are expected to intensify, causing temperatures to dip to near or just below the freezing mark. As a result, incoming precipitation from the low will likely fall as freezing rain Monday afternoon….
