Simcoe County is starting 2018 the same way it ended 2017.

Frosty.

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Simcoe County, including Barrie and Orillia, to start the new year, with windchill values across the region throughout the day near or below minus 30

These wind chills will moderate during the day, though Environment Canada expects very cold conditions may persist into Tuesday for most areas before moderating somewhat around midweek.

Environment Canada says that extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frostbite and hypothermia.
