Four Georgian Bay boaters were charged over the May long weekend for life-jacket violations.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP issued six charges over the course of the weekend, including one for liquor violations and another for boating safety equipment deficiencies.

“We are taking a hard stance with open alcohol and missing life-jackets. The OPP marine unit has zero tolerance with those two things,” said Kris Beatty, an officer with the Southern Georgian Bay OPP.

Officers were out patrolling the waters of Georgian Bay during the kick-off weekend to safe boating awareness week. Four marine officers logged over 33 hours of patrol time on OPP vessels during their 12 hour shifts from May 18 to 21, stopping numerous boats to check for operator sobriety and…
