Georgian Bay General Hospital’s Penetanguishene site was evacuated for 30 minutes Feb. 13 after an electrical fire broke out around 1 p.m.
The Penetanguishene Fire Department responded after a code red was called at the local facility, which houses the GBGH finance department and a dialysis unit.
Dialysis patients and the finance team were moved to another area inside the building. Five patients already undergoing treatment were safely removed from dialysis following emergency protocols for evacuation.
“The fire department and GBGH’s facilities team worked to clear the building of some odour lingering from the fire and patients were brought back into the dialysis area to resume their treatment,” said Gail Hunt, president and CEO of GBGH.
