Life jackets and safety equipment is a legal requirement on all boating crafts but many boaters are not getting the message.

The Ontario Provincial Police’s Marine Unit of the Georgian Bay Detachment stopped several vessels recently where operators had no life jackets or any other safety equipment aboard.

“Vessel operators need to check that they have on board sufficient life jackets for every person(s) on board and required safety equipment prior to leaving the shore,” said Const. Dave Hobson.

Constables K. Beatty and J. Villeneuve regularly crew the Thomas P. Coffin patrol vessel between Wasaga Beach and Twelve Mile Bay to save lives, reduce injuries and educate the public about safe boating practices.
