As a councillor I have fought to instil a new sense of fiscal responsibility, to contain cost and tax growth and to focus on economic development. I pushed for greater co-operation between the Townships and helped to create and secure financing for the Economic Development Corporation of North Simcoe. I have fought budget battles helping to reduce waste and inefficiencies while preserving the services that make our town work.
Eight years ago I said, “Town hall should exist to serve the citizens of the town; the citizens of the town do not exist to finance the ambitions of town hall.” I believe those words are still true today. A town is more than its physical infrastructure, more than roads, water and waste water; a town is its people.
