Shared: Guy Monague elected chief of Beausoleil First Nation

Beausoleil First Nation has elected Guy Monague as its new chief.

Guy Monague narrowly edged out Roland Monague Sr. by 33 votes during the June 23 election.

Monague replaces chief Mary McCue-King, who did not seek re-election.

He is joined by six councillors including Joanne Sandy, Kristin Monague, Judith Lauraine Jamieson, Hank Monague, Angela Beedie and Susan C. Copegog.

It was a highly contested race for councillor with 21 people running for the six open seats. Every candidate received over 110 votes, with ten collecting more than 200 votes. Sandy received the most votes (384), while Copegog took the final councillor seat with 255 votes.
