New parents won’t be able to get reassurance they’ve installed their car seat correctly from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, but they’ll still be able to get advice.
While the health unit has stopped providing inspections, they still offer plenty of educational resources on how to safely install seats.
“A lot of parents just want the added reassurance,” Janice Greco, program manager at the SMDHU, said.
The SMDHU website said, when used correctly, child seats reduce the risk of death and serious injury by nearly 70 per cent. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death by injury for Canadian children between the ages of one and nine.
