MIDLAND – The Huronia Museum Film Series will provide audiences next week with a gripping snapshot of immigrant life in France.

“Dheepan” begins in Sri Lanka at the end of the civil war. The title character is a former soldier with no surviving family members. He teams up with two fellow residents of a refugee camp to pose as a family, fool the aid workers and obtain passage on a boat for France.

Once in the outskirts of Paris, Dheepan and his faux family use their hard-won survival skills to navigate a crime-ridden housing complex, where past violence and present threats create a volatile combination.

“Dheepan” will be shown at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 at Galaxy Cinemas. Tickets are $10 at the door or in advance at the Huronia Museum (705-526-2844). Tickets can also be purchased online.
