Midland council is taking a serious look into how and where its members are spending their time.
In 2017, council was involved with 41 different external committees — all created to advise or oversee projects or entities within the town. While every committee has at least one council representative, some see multiple councillors regularly participating.
“There’s probably merit to all of these committees,” said Mayor Gord McKay. “But I’ve got 40-plus committees — and more coming — and councillors who can’t participate because they are tapped out. I’ve got to strike a balance.”
