North Simcoe municipalities combined to spend more than $744,000 on council remuneration and expenses in 2017.
The near three-quarter of a million dollars was dished out to four mayors, four deputy mayors and 22 councillors in Midland, Penetanguishene, Tay and Tiny — an area with a combined population of 47,646.
The nine-man Midland council was paid $271,334 in combined remuneration and expenses, led by Mayor Gord McKay who made a total of $45,562. McKay was the highest paid politician across all four municipalities last year.
Penetanguishene’s nine-man council was compensated $206,898, with Mayor Gerry Marshall collecting $33,434.
