Shared: Midland council votes against proposed King Street heritage designation study

It appears as though the grand, historic homes on King Street will not be getting a heritage designation after all.

The Midland Heritage Committee had proposed a section of King Street, from Yonge Street to Ellen Street, receive an official heritage conservation district designation in order to better protect the building exteriors and the historic street façade.

After months of work by town staff and members of the heritage committee, council turned the idea down.

A report came to the council table on Oct. 23 suggesting the town proceed with a $30,000 study into the historical significance of 17 buildings in the previously proposed section of the street. The Midland Curling Club was to be excluded from the district.
