Shared: Midland emergency department averaging 92 mental-health-related visits per month
The emergency department at the Georgian Bay General Hospital is being inundated with patients seeking treatment for mental illness.
On average the hospital is seeing 92 mental-health-related visits a month, making it one of the busiest in Simcoe County.
“We have the highest amount of mental-health-related visits in our region,” said Gail Hunt, GBGH’s President and CEO.
From April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017 there were 1,107 mental-health-related visits to the GBGH emergency department, which works out to an average of three visits per day.
