Shared: Midland volunteer firefighters to receive five per cent wage hike

The Town of Midland and its volunteer firefighters have come to an agreement on a new three-year contract.

The volunteers voted overwhelmingly in favour of the collective agreement, which is effective Jan. 1, 2018 through to Dec. 31, 2020.

“We are pleased with the outcome and the ratification result confirms that the volunteers are as well,” said J.D. Alkema, representative of the Ontario Firefighters Association, CLAC Local 920. “We appreciated the co-operation and professionalism with which the negotiations were conducted with by the Town.”

The settlement provides wage increase of over five per cent during the three-year term, improved access to career firefighter vacancies, improved access to training and better opportunities to attain…
