The Southern Georgian Bay OPP marine unit checked 50 vessels and issued eight charges during 35 hours of patrol over the Canada Day long weekend.

Officers stopped a vessel at 12:20 am on July 1 near the Deer Island Channel of Georgian Bay and conducted a drinking and driving investigation. The 20-year-old man operating the vessel was transported to the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment for further investigation.

As a result, Cameron McKnight of New Tecumseth was charged for operating a vessel with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in his blood, for failing to exhibit masthead forward lights on power-driven vessel, failing to exhibit side lights on power-driven vessel and for operating a pleasure craft without a copy of a licence on board.
