Golfers from St. Theresa’s Catholic High School drove the ball long and straight at the Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) championships this week.
On Tuesday at Tangle Creek Golf and Country Club in Thornton, the senior boys team captured the title with a cumulative score of 312, five strokes ahead of Barrie North Collegiate Institute and Innisdale Secondary School.
Individually, Owen Bell led the team with a 74. Garrett Watson and Adam Jordan each shot 79, while Patrick Brown carded an 80.
The team will now go on to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championships Oct. 11-13 at the Saugeen Golf Club in Port Elgin.
On Monday at Cranberry Resort in Collingwood, the Thunder girls team placed second in the GBSSA field, a cumulative 15 strokes behind Alliston’s Banting Memorial High School.
Laura Wright placed sixth with a score of 105, which was 22 strokes back of the winning golfer from Banting and two strokes better than St. Theresa’s teammate Sophia Light, who finished in seventh spot.
Camryn Harris and Sarah Song of the Thunder shot 110 to end up tied for eighth.
