A new support group for breastfeeding mothers launches this week at Chigamik Community Health Centre.

The Midland drop-in group Mama Tribe starts Wednesday, in the middle of Canadian Breastfeeding Week.

“There is a huge need for breastfeeding support in our community,” Mona Loones, a lactation consultant at the centre, stated in a press release.

“There are a lot of misconceptions, lack of education and unmet expectations around breastfeeding. We want to empower women with the tools and knowledge they need to successfully breastfeed and to offer a place that feels safe and nurturing.”

Mama Tribe is free and will be held every Wednesday from 12:30-2 p.m.

The Chigamik drop-in breastfeeding clinic remains available to the public every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For more information, go to chigamik.ca or call 705-527-4154, ext. 254.
