The Southern Georgian Bay OPP are taking a hard stance on alcohol and life-jackets this boating season.
Officers will be out patrolling the waters of Georgian Bay this Victoria Day long weekend as the summer boating season kicks off. Police will be on the lookout for open alcohol on board boats and making sure everyone on board is wearing a working life-jacket.
“We are taking a hard stance with open alcohol and missing life-jackets. The OPP marine unit has zero tolerance with those two things,” said Kris Beatty, an officer with the Southern Georgian Bay OPP marine unit.
Beatty says there will be no warnings if any boaters are caught without a life-jacket or carrying open alcohol. A ticket will be issued, with fines varying from $240 to $305…
