Is a parachute candidate a better option than Patrick Brown?

That’s the question members of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party’s Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte riding association appear to be openly discussing these days. The riding association has a ‘Plan B’ in place, should new party leader Doug Ford prohibit Brown, the current Simcoe North MPP and the PCs’ nominated candidate for the riding, from running under the party banner in June’s provincial election. That plan includes ‘parachuting’ — a term used to describe a person seeking the seat who does not live within the riding — a candidate in to run in Brown’s place, Scott Macpherson, the riding association’s vice-president and a Brown family friend, told Simcoe.com March 13.
