Christmas came early for the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, said Janice Skot, president and CEO of the hospital.
“As of tomorrow, young kids in need of acute mental health admission will be able to come here,” Skot said during the grand opening Dec. 19. “It’s the first time in our history throughout Simcoe-Muskoka.”
Prior to the new unit, Simcoe Muskoka was the only Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) without an in-patient mental health unit for youth.
The unit features an eight-bed in-patient unit which will provide care for an anticipated 300 youths each year.
