Shared: Salary and benefits to continue for Midland Police Service employees awaiting arbitration
Midland Police Service officers who were not offered employment by the OPP are going to continued to be paid by the town while their severance is in limbo.
On Jan. 23, the Ontario Civilian Police Commission gave its approval for the disbandment of the Midland Police Service, with the understanding that the town and MPS employees would be proceeding to arbitration.
The collective agreement between the Midland Police Services Board, which represents the town, and the Midland Police Association expired on Dec. 31, 2017. The two sides are in the process of negotiating a contract renewal, which includes provisions pertaining to severance pay upon disbandment of the Midland Police Service.
An arbitration hearing is expected to be set for mid-March.
