Shared: Simcoe County District School Board grows French program ‘responsibly’

Fluency in French is a highly employable skill, and the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) says its French programs are designed to ensure they can find employees who can teach it.

While other school boards in the province have called it a crisis trying to find teachers qualified to teach French, the SCDSB says they’ve avoided similar situations through planning.

“One of the things that we’ve tired to do in order to be able to avoid some of the difficulties that other boards have, is we’ve tried to grow in a responsible way,” said Chris Samis, superintendent of education of program and special education.

The way the school board offers French is in the middle of a transition due to that planning.
