Simcoe County’s public and separate school boards will hold a meeting on Sept. 10 to provide an update on proposed changes to education development charges.
The Simcoe County District School Board and Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board are having another meeting to discuss their bylaws for education development charges (EDCs), which are collected from new developments and used to purchase land for new school sites.
The current EDC bylaw has been in place since 2013, and the boards are reviewing them because they expire in November.
Municipalities and developers had raised concerns about the proposed increase of the EDCs over their 2013 rate, which is determined by projected student populations and land costs.
