Simcoe County is charged up about battery recycling.
During the county’s annual curbside battery collection, 24,038 kilograms of single-use batteries, nearly one million batteries, were received.
That puts Simcoe County at the top of the pile for battery collection among all participating jurisdictions in the province.
“We’re quite a lot smaller than municipalities like Peel and Durham,” Willma Bureau, contracts and collections supervisor for the county, said.
With about 131,750 households, the county collected about seven batteries per household.
The 2017 collection, which took place the week following daylight savings in November, was an increase of 7.2 per cent from the previous year.
