Simcoe County District School Board trustees recently heard about how the board is supporting transgender students by being able to change their gender on school board documents.

Irfan Toor, principal of equity, diversity and inclusion, gave trustees an update on training provided to staff, what resources have been made available to staff and students, and system changes that have been made in line with the board’s operational plan.

A big system change that has been made is aimed at supporting transgendered students.

Toor said they are now able to change a student’s gender assigned to their Ontario Education Number (OEN), and match it with the school board’s data. Before, not having matching gender information created problems, he said.
