Skaters hoping for a local outdoor skating trail may be getting their Christmas wish … but a little later than expected.
The nearly kilometre-long skating trail circles past some of the museum’s heritage buildings and through wooded areas of the county forest.
Kelly Swift Jones, curator of the Simcoe County Museum, said the trail is anticipated to be open by the winter break, weather permitting.
The trail is funded through a donation made by the Cumba Foundation.
To create the trail, staff and volunteers compact the snow along the trail with a “wobbly-wheel compactor.”
When the snow is flat and hard enough, staff will flood the path until a skating surface forms.
