Officers with the Southern Georgian Bay OPP marine unit logged more than 24 hours of patrol over the Aug. 10 to 12 weekend, checking 58 vessels and issuing six charges.

Police were patrolling Six Mile Lake, Honey Harbour and Georgian Bay around Midland, Penetanguishene and Tiny Township, checking for required safety equipment and operator sobriety.

Officers charged six boaters with several marine-related offences. Four of those charges were for insufficient life-jackets aboard the vessel.

“Vessel operators need to check that they have on board sufficient life-jackets for every person on board and the required safety equipment, prior to leaving shore,” said Kris Beatty, and officer with the Southern Georgian Bay OPP marine unit.
