Southern Georgian Bay OPP participated in the provincial initiative on inattentive and distracted driving, which ran from March 12 to 18, and charged 10 drivers over the course of the week.
Officers participated in the provincial initiative to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving, as well as enforcing the legislation on drivers who continue to unlawfully use their hand-held devices while they drive.
As of Sept. 1, 2018, the fines and penalties for distracted driving in Ontario will increase. If convicted of distracted driving, a fully licensed driver will receive a $490 and three demerit points.
