Shared: Southern Georgian Bay OPP crack down on drinking and driving

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP set up five RIDE check stop locations Nov. 17 and 18 in Penetanguishene, checking 97 vehicles in total.

One driver was removed from the roadway for a drinking and driving offence.

Mario Gatto, 30, of Clearview Township has been charged with refusing to provide a proper breath sample.

His vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days. Gatto was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in Midland court on Dec. 7.

Further RIDE stops were set up with 15 vehicles being checked in Tay Township and 10 vehicles being checked in Georgian Bay Township. No drivers were charged for drinking and driving.
