Despite the efforts of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP conducting six RIDE checks and stopping over 300 drivers, officers were kept busy removing drunk drivers from area roadways over the weekend.
On July 30 at 2:24 a.m. an officer on patrol stopped a vehicle on Yonge Street in Midland for a driving infraction. Upon speaking with the male driver the officer entered into a drinking and driving investigation. As a result, 75-year-old Raymond Thomas of Tiny Township was charged with driving while ability impaired and care or control over 80 mg.
His vehicle has been impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days.
Thomas was released from police custody and is set to appear in court in Midland on Aug. 16.
